River Falls is a small, quiet city in Northwestern Wisconsin. Sitting less than 10 miles from the Wisconsin-Minnesota border, River falls residents have to travel over five times further to see a Packer game at Lambeau than they do to see a Vikings game in Minneapolis. When the Packers and Vikings play at the same time, the Packers games are usually blacked out. Basically, it’s much easier for someone who lives in River Falls to be a Vikings fan than it is for them to cheer for the Packers.
This week’s Big Cheese didn’t take the easy way out. Model Frankie Rayder, a native of River Falls, stayed true to her Wisconsin roots, ignored the persistent Vikings presence in her home town and picked the green and gold as her favorite NFL team.
Rayder has modeled for some of the biggest names in the business: Gucci, Versace, Marc Jacobs, Dolce & Gabbana, DKNY, and Roberto Cavalli. Sports fans may recognize her name from appearances in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in 2004 and 2005.
Today, Rayder lives with her husband Michael Balzary (the former Red Hot Chili Peppers’ bassist) and daughter in Los Angeles. Rayder does make it home from time to time, so if you’re driving through River Falls on a Packer Sunday stop into Emma’s Bar- it’s Rayder’s favorite spot to watch her favorite team. Who knows, you may see her there!
